Indian Idol 5 – Sashi emilminated, Who is to be blamed?
I usually don’t feel attached to any contestants of a reality show, but this weeks elimination episode of Indian Idol season 5 did find me dumb struck! It was because one of my favorites, Sashi, a 20 year old from Patna was announced eliminated from the show. I never really have even made an effort to reach out for the mobile phone to make a vote, but at the end of it all i didn’t know what to say. It was a moment when my emotions were taking control of my thoughts. What stopped that thankfully, was an array of stupid comments from the judges.. More about it as we go on..
Sashi’s elimination was a shocker especially after the kind of singing Tia, another 16 year old who has a good looking face, innocent looks and a mediocre singing experience; or Swaroop, a 20 year old from the village of Rajasthan who can do only one kind of singing during the previous galas. But who is to blame? But before we get there, here is one of the best performances of Sashi in Indian Idol:
Sashi – O meri Jaan – Pritam Special
The Judge put it on the audience, and here’s what they said.. (Well, of the least I remember, I can’t find the video)
Anu Malik: The Audience have made a very bad decision. You are letting a big singer go away..
Saleem Merchant: We are sorry that Sashi has to go. Don’t know how public voting works.
Sunidhi Chauhan: I really fail to understand what the public needs. Come and tell us what you need, this decision is bad.
I guess the judges were also going through an emotional outcry when they made these comments. Even we as Janta(voting audience) don’t know who is leading and who is not. We as Janta only like somebody because it is the way you show them to us. We as Janta don’t know which contestant is leading. We as Janta don’t like to vote because the voting is not toll free or even if we do vote we don’t know if the voting process is transparent. Even though you keep repeating that the voting process is processed by Ernst and young we as Janta would never find it real unless you have a huge screen that shows the vote count increasing after every vote in real time.
There have been a lot of reality shows where the media has been able to expose the reality behind the reality shows. There was this one time when the contestants of ‘Big Boss’ were seen enjoying the climate of Khandala when they were supposed to be locked inside the house; and this one time when Rakhi Sawant and his ex-current-ex uffff-it’s complicated boyfriend Abhishek who accused the producers of the reality show ‘Nach Baliye’ of forging the voting process. Yes, a media person was able to vote for one contestant and not for the other. Both of these may have been TRP gathering stunts, but both are also the harsh reality of the reality shows.
Why is the Janta wrong in thinking of a forgery in this case too? Why could the producers not made this possible, none of the audience member are going to know about it. Why can’t a vote count of 10000 be change to 1000? It’s all in the game and which is why i don’t let emotions override, and anyway how is anybody winning an Indian Idol going to change my life at all? But all that we care about is the voting process being fair, especially when we pay ‘premium’ charges!
The producers, The Judges and everybody involved with the show including the audience stand to be blamed. The judges for creating melodrama about one contestants performance and completely the opposite for another. Please be fair, the only way to do this is that the judges nominate the bottom 4 after every gala just like they pick the performer of the day and put them for public voting.
The producers, for scripting everything in lieu of better TRP’s. I wouldn’t really blame the audience for votes, everybody has their favorites and wants to help the contestant continually entertain us. I blame the audience for getting stupidly emotional over everything, It’s just a show, nothing is going to change in your life. Just enjoy it and sleep well.
Now that my favorite is gone, do I stop watching the show? No! Another one takes his place. I’ve always enjoyed Sreeram’s singing, and will continue enjoying so. I’d want to see him win Indian Idol, but again wouldn’t be feeling bad if he’s eliminated. It’s just a show and not a moment when i’d hang myself. You deserve to die if you have a temparament that you cannot control! Who Sreeram? Check him out:
Sreeram – Aaja Aaja – Asha Bhosle / RD Burman Special
Sreeram – Khwaja Khwaja – Lamha (Bipasha Basu, Sanjay Dutt, Kunal Kapoor)
Sreeram – Breathless – Shankar Ehsaan Loy Special – WOW!
Until next time I have an emotional moment.
