Chandni Chowk to China (3/5)
Public Opinion: A Fun Ride?.. If you are not a Akshay Kumar or a Deepika Padukone fan then you are to be disappointed by the movie. You better wait till the movie premieres on television.
As for me, I did not think the movie was all that bad.. But yes, it fell very short of expectations! I’m a big Deepika and Akshay fan, therefore was waiting for the bookings to open.. I managed to snatch a Morning show ticket to what was a Advance booked theater. Midway to the movie, most people had started passing comments. People clapped, People laughed and People cried at scenes that were not supposed to be connected with that kind of emotion. The movie ended and I was left defending the movie. Yes, I liked the movie. it just cannot be discarded as a out and out boredom!Yes, It was not living up to the hype that was created. So was Rab Ne bana Di Jodi. Most people seemed to have liked it, I did not. Am i an excerpt? I don’t think so. Rab was a slow and boring movie whose story was nothing more than non sense. CC2C was the first movie to be shot in China, First? Nah probably the second, but first to be shot with the Chinese actors in china and on the Great Wall! It was fantastic.
What’s the Plus?

First movie to be shot in china. The story takes Akshay, a road side parathe wala to china where he is thought of as the hero who can help rescue the poor villagers affected by the Goondaism of a Chinese villan. From the sets, to the actors; Every single shot had that Chinese feeling. It was nice to hear a Chinese actor speak hindi in the most definitive and funny way. The chemistry between him and Akshay was just cute.
Akshay gives it his best. The fights, Every single fight has been shot just the way it should be. If not for the climax which i will talk about later, I was experiencing a treat.
Deepika Padukone. I cannot stop liking her. She looks good in Indian outfits, She looks better in the Chinese ones. She is a glam doll and i wish i had one!
The music, This one is a real treat. You may not like it when you hear it, but when heard with sequences in the movie, it is wow! “From chandni Chowk to China”.. “Tere Naina..” “India se aaya mera dost.. ” “chak Laein de”.. Watch it and you will like it.
I hated this part:
Climax! without any doubt, the climax was the worst part of the movie. Director Nikhil Advani creates all the hype to what seemed like a superb end. The Hero has just finished training and is all set to kill the Villan who is a master of his craft. Wow! Wasn’t i expecting a nice fight (i had all this Kung Fu hustle scenes in my mind). What turns out is a disappointing comedy.. What the.. The villian i killed in 5 mins and our hero is victorious and in the most funniest ways.. My god.. I was disappointed for the first time. What a waste of the actors… I was expecting Kung fu hustle.. and they showed me a Tom and Jerry! It was a pain to sit through this one.
What a waste of Mithun Chakraborty’s acting talent. The man revived his legacy with a strong role in GURU, to a not so important role in CC2C. For starters i wonder why he accepted this role, it was short lived and nothing to do with the story of the film except for when he gets killed, Akshay decides to kill the villan and save the village.
I liked the fact about the chinese actors using only the Chinese language. They are the masters of Kung fu and have outstarred our Indian Hero. I pity the villan’s role, He was shown as the person who killed the hero of the village, who Akshay is believed to be a reincarnation of. He is then killed in the funniest of manner. The pre fight that shocks the villan of Akshay’s skills was a interesting one. The movie could have ended there, but no! Mister Nikhil wanted to take it to the full two and half hours. What a waste of time and effort.
It was a mix of 4 to 5 english movies with a touch of Indian flavour, All in all a decent entertainer. If you are all into sets, music, and not the story, i think you will like the film. You may want to skip the climax in case you liked it that far.
Recommendation: If you think you have watched the best climax in a movie, watch this one : “Butterfly on a wheel” starring Pierce Brosnan. May be it’s time we start being inspired from their movies.
