The Year that was..

As we enter yet another new year, I try and look back at a few things that caught the eye.

“President Bush betters himself at DODGEBALL!!”
Ex US President George W Bush made news when a Iraqi journalist attacked Bush with a shoe. Bush was attending his final press conference before handing the Post of the President. The journalist accused Bush of causing havoc in the lives of million other Iraqi people. A lot of it has been said and done after the incident. This event also brought in more interest for online gamers, A lot of new Flash games have been developed and released on the internet. The best ones received over a million hits in a single day.. The character of Bush in the game received more than that. To Bush it was the year best forgotten!

“A Wednesday”
The Movie made good business, But what made real news was the Terror attacks on the financial captial of India on 26 November 2008. Mumbai was shocked by surprise attacks on the Taj Hotel, The Trident Oberoi, Narimal House, The Shivaji Terminus and attacks carried out on roads claiming lives of 183 people, leaving over a 1000 injured. Thanks to Soliders from the national Security Guards and the Mumbai Police peace was restored as it took a dreaded 68 hours to gun down the last of the terrorists who had taken guard at the Narimal House.
Mumbaikars and citizens from the rest of India carried out Peace protests. Looking back at what turned out to be a tragic incident, news reports suggested that it could have been averted if the security agencies had acted in the correct manner. The relationship that looked like strengthening between India and Pakistan is now back to what it was in the year 2000. Both countries were reportedly to begin a state of war. Thankfully they decided against it. Only god knows what’s coming in year 2009, but rest assured We are not going to be victims to negligent Politics this time around. Every decision that does not favour the Citizens of India will be protested.

Great year for Indian Cricket
The Bengal Tiger, Sourav Ganguly announced his retirement from test cricket. This announcement came in a year where Sourav scored over 1000 runs at a decent average, contributing very heavily in times of pressure.

MS Dhoni, The new rising star of Indian Cricket took over Test Captaincy from Anil Kumble who retired following an Injury to the right hand during the recently concluded Test Series against Australia. India surprisingly won the Test Series 2-0 to snatch the Border Gavaskar trophy from Australia.

MS Dhoni also led the Indian side to the first ever Twenty20 world cup win to what was the best ever world cup final so far. India beat Pakistan by 2 runs to claim victory. India also tied the test series against Australia in Australia, won the three sided one day tournament, Knocking of the home team Australia and Winning the final against the mighty Srilankans in what had been a thrilling encounter in recent past. The Young Indian side also showed great class when the team defeated the touring British to a 5-0 clean sweep in the ODI’s and a 1-0 win in the longer version of cricket.

The inaugural version of the IPL also took place the same year. The event saw participation from 8 national sides that included imports from the international outfits. Rajasthan Royals captained by Australian Leg Spinner, Shane Warne, won the inaugural edition remaining unbeaten almost through the end of the tournament.

To what has been a good year for Indian Cricket, Australians seem to be losing the grip over the top spot following their poor showing in the recent tournament. Currently Austrlia trail the touring South African side 2-0 in the test series. If SA manage to clean sweep, They will become the no.1 team in the year for Test Cricket.

Missing: Raj Thackrey

Raj Thackrey murders the Bhaiyya’s of UP and Bihar for political greed
Many people belonging to the state of MP, UP and Bihar were beaten up in Mumbai as  Raj Thackrey demanded them of leaving maharastra, accusing the people of depriving the Maharastrian youth off their jobs. Raj Thackrey made news for most of the time until recent terror attacks, when Raj Thackrey seemigly disappeared to no-where.

Tata Nano project moves from Bengal to Gujarat
Mayaati decided to take stand for the villagers of Singur District where the proposed plant for manufacturing the Tata Nano cars was to be built. After continuing protests and hunger strike by the politician, Ratan Tata decided to move the project from West Bengal to Gujarat where he was welcomed with open hands by Gujarat cheif minister, Mr. Narendra Modi.

Many more important events took place in the year gone by. It’s just my work that’s keeping me busy. For that matter, this post was supposed to appear on the 31st of December 2008. And today is what, the 5th of january… almost 5 days later and incomplete. Anyways ur comments are always welcome. Will try and update as much as possible.

Happy New Year to all..

Yes there would have been.. But the bad one’s should have overshadowed the good one’s..

I don’t log on to yahoo for the very reason that I’m bugged telling people that i’m busy and cannot talk.. 😦 They feel bad and in a way i feel bad too.. Yeah you must be wondering if I’m really that busy.. There is no way i can prove it.. Anyways..

I do want to get back to writing, but just don’t find a reason to do so.. Everything about life has become getting to work and getting back from it! Will come up with one very soon.. Till then keep my page visits up.. As u may see the 10K mark is not so far!

  7. January 13, 2009 at 11:46 am

    Awww.. the 10,000 mark.. Just 2000 clicks away… 😕

Btw, no need of proving. Wondering if you’re really that busy, means wondering “If it is really possible to be that busy..” As you see, I lack experience in that regard..! 😦
