England Tour of India, 2008 – 3rd ODI – A Preview

Ishant Cleared to play, but the selection is Undecided
Ishant Sharma has been declared fit to play the next (3rd) ODI at Kanpur on November 20,2008. Ishant earlier had his ankle checked with the BCCI doctor who declared that Ishant was only suffering from a minor sprain and could play in the series if he had rested. Dhoni decided to rest Ishant for the first 2 ODI’s following his policy of Rotating his fast bowlers through the series keeping in mind the schedule ahead of them. The selection committee is however undecided of whether Ishant should be picked or rested for another game.

IshantIf Ishant plays, either RP Singh or Munaf Patel may have to sit out. RP seems to be the likely choice to be replaced with Ishant given his average showing in the first 2 games. As for England and its continuing Injury woes with England’s player of the year Sidebottom, He Has been sent back to England to have himself treated. Expected to be fit by the 3rd ODi, England captain now has a few worries. Kevin Peitersen and his men would be looking to win the next game to stay in the series or it would then become very difficult to bounce back as England will then have to win all of the 4 remaining ODI’s. “I’m going to take Yuvraj out in the hotel tonight and make sure he doesn’t come to Kanpur for the next game” Said pietersen when he was asked about their plans stopping Yuvraj Singh. He earlier scored a 138* and 118 in the first 2 ODI’s. England’s worries have been more with a quality spinner. Monty Panesar was overlooked after his poor showing in the recently concluded county season. Samit Patel continues being a batting all rounder than what he was picked for,Spin. Kevin Peitersen is likely to be practicing the toss with the Indian Rupee, as he would defenitely like to gain an advantage over the Indian counterpart.

Continuing his announcement of Yuvraj being a likely replacement to Ganguly, Kris Srikanth later announced that there were many others in contention for the place, but Yuvraj seemed like a likely choice given his current run in the series. India would like to extend their lead over England by wnning the third ODI. Ishant is likely to make his place in the team for the 3rd ODI at the expense of RP singh, But India might not want to break the winning team. Kevin Pietersen has to prove a point to the team, He and Andrew Flintoff need to take responsibility on their shoulders and carry England to a victory at Knapur. All eyes however will be on Yuvraj Singh.
