Save Water – Save Ourselves
Many would argue that the child is actually praying to god to stop his mom from forcing him to bath (That is how this picture was actually made and forwarded). But i found it interesting and decided to use this picture as a motivation to educate a few people and even feel inspired to write it as a blog. <!more> Many would even imagine “I’m trying to save water, But what if others don’t. We still face the problem.” I agree, but when everyone thinks in a similar manner no one is actually saving even a drop. Understanding the effect it might have in future will motivate a few people to saving water, like it did to me.
What worries me the most at this point in time, Is the speed in which all the natural resources are depleting. Though man kind is able to generate newer ways of extracting it alternatively,We might have found ways of extracting drinkable water from Sea, Only at the cost of having to burn a lot of fuel to run machinery to build such plants. Never has any government laid focus on doing something at the source.
We all are only good at pointing fingers to the government, we as people have never taken an initiative to solve the problem and be a part of the solution. Have we even tried to understand how wasting water affects our eco-system. Everyone in the world knows what Global- Warming is and why it is caused, But never has anyone of us tried to be a part of the solution. We would still take a bike to buy a product from the nearby store. We want more cars, as they add to our status, forgetting the fact that eventually we might have to travel to Heaven or Hell where ur mode of transport is nothing.
Not forgetting about the topic we are discussing,On an average, A person on this planet uses about 20 litres of water in a day be it for any purpose. Have we ever wondered how much is actually being wasted?? The point i make is that most of these surveys carried out just analyze how much we use, not how much we waste.I have always been in support of saving water and believe in educating people about it in any way possible. I truly believe in ‘ Each one teach one’ (now a name of an NGO in India). If everyone of us is able to even teach one person, we will be able to achieve what we are trying to do.
Talking about it is going to do no good, Lets join hands together and become a part of the solution to this big problem. So i decide to write about the possible ways in which we could save what i call the most valuable resource in the world, WATER.
Solution 1: Installing Taps with new technology.
When I was looking for home furnishings for renovating my house, I cam across a new kind of tap that has a air filter fitted into it. It would cost a few rupees more. I decided to do some research on it.
On surfing the web, i found that by using these taps we would save at least 40% of water for the same task that we would do with a normal tap. Ask me how it works? here is the catch, the tap comes fitted with a fan which would mix air from outside with the water, This would reduce the amount of water out through the nozzle. That would mean that the water coming out of it slow?? Nope, the fan actually builds the pressure inside the tap and gushes out water at high speed. By Increasing the pressure the water comes out, we are able to achieve the satisfaction required.
To find taps like this, go to a nearby star hotels. If u still want to test it out, get one for ur shower. I’m sure u will not feel any dis-satisfaction.
Tip: Use these taps as an outlet in showers/ dishwashers where u might actually be wasting water without knowledge.
U never realize how much water u are wasting when under a shower, Do u?? Use buckets of water, so that u actually know how much u r using and how much u r actually wasting. If u still want the pleasure of being under a shower after a very long tiring day, Get a new shower with this fitting. And please get out of the tub, Using it daily makes no sense.
Kunal, now we know where we might be wasting water. We also know how the new tap works and why u think we should have them fitted. But then we would have to increase our budget. Do u think that would make others think the way u r thinking??
I agree to the fact that it is an extra load to ur already heavy budget. U need to find some other ways to actually save water, U need to focus on reducing the water usage at the places where u think u r wasting the most.
Here are a few suggestions:
Water from kitchen sinks and bath can directly be poured into ur garden, U save water!!
Using water in buckets rather than a shower or a bath tub saves a lot of water. U might only require a bucket or a bucket and half to have a satisfactory bath.
Here is a solution i think can be used in any house. All u need is a thick skin balloon and a air pump. Here is how u go about it. Fill the balloon with air using the pump, or the conventional ‘Blow ourselves’ technique, Tie it up so that no air escapes from it. Tie the balloon to a small stone and immerse it place it into flush tank of ur toilet. Oh i forgot, make sure that the size of the balloon is small and fits into the tank, is small in size, so that u dont drain of all the water from the tank. Don’t even imagine using a brick instead of the stone, u might end up choking the tube 😀 .
How it works?? The balloon occupies some amount of space in the tank which the water cannot fill, and therefore we save water that the balloon occupies. Imagine if the balloon is able to occupy 500ml of water per flush we might save about 10 litres of water for 20 flushes (Which i think is normal in any household) in a day. Imagine if all the people around the world save this much a day, we might not be facing this problem right now.
I try any means possible to save water. I do expect people around me to do the same. But u just cant force people into doing this, can u?? The International organizations do whatever possible to educate people on the cause and effects, eventually they fail to because most of the people don’t see it as a threat for the future.
Do post newer methods of saving water as comments on the blog, Be creative, save water 🙂
